The Committee to Protect Dogs is a state ballot question committee dedicated to passing stronger dog protection laws in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. We are a grassroots organization comprised of more than 3,000 volunteers statewide.
We are supported by the oldest and most respected animal protection organizations in the state, including the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, The Animal Rescue League of Boston, The Humane Society of the United States and greyhound protection group GREY2K USA.
Our Victories
- In 2007 and 2008, we collected over 150,000 signatures with an all-volunteer effort to qualify Question 3 for the November ballot. This humane law will phase out greyhound racing by 2010.
- In 2006, we collected over 150,000 signatures for a ballot question that would have created stronger laws against dog fighting, increased penalties for harming service dogs and phased out commercial dog racing.
- In 2006, we worked with other animal protection organizations and lawmakers to pass a stronger anti-dogfighting law. Specifically, this new state law clarifies that law enforcement authorities can seize the paraphernalia associated with this cruel blood sport, and take protective custody of the animals involved.
