About Us
The Committee to Protect Dogs is a state ballot question committee
dedicated to passing stronger dog protection laws in the Commonwealth
of Massachusetts. We are a grassroots organization comprised of more
than two thousand volunteers statewide.
We are supported by the oldest and most respected animal welfare organizations
in the state, including the Massachusetts
Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, The
Animal Rescue League of Boston, The
Humane Society of the United States and greyhound protection group
GREY2K USA.
Our Victories
· In 2007, we collected over 100,000 signatures with an all-volunteer effort to place the Greyhound Protection Act on the November 2008 ballot. This humane law will phase out commercial dog racing by 2010.
· In 2006, we collected over 150,000 signatures for a ballot
question that would have created stronger laws against dogfighting,
increased penalties for harming service dogs and phased out commercial
dog racing.
· In 2006, we worked with other animal welfare organizations
and lawmakers to pass a stronger dogfighting law in the Commonwealth.
Specifically, this new law clarifies that law enforcement authorities
can seize paraphernalia associated with this cruel blood sport.
